We are Facts Center for Journalism Services. A non-profit institution founded on the belief that Sudan’s public deserves media that is skilled, transparent, and free from political or financial influence.

Facts Center for Journalism Services was founded in 2019 in Sudan on the conviction that press freedom and independent media are not luxuries — they are necessary conditions for a functioning public sphere.
We operate a network of professional journalists inside Sudan and across the diaspora. We produce, publish, and support original reporting through research, investigation, and professional editorial standards. We train the next generation of Sudanese journalists. And we do all of this without state funding, advertiser pressure, or political alignment.
Since the April 2023 war began in Sudan, we have continued publishing without interruption; operating from Nairobi while maintaining a network of reporters working from inside and outside Sudan.
Four programs. One institution.
Atar Network
Sudan’s independent journalism network. Atar produces and publishes original reporting across two magazines, three podcast series, special investigations, and newsletters — in Arabic and English.
Zamala Fellowship
An annual journalism fellowship developing early-career Sudanese reporters, editors, and fixers. Fellows receive six months of editorial mentorship, structured training, and a platform to publish original work on Atar Network.
Information Center
Facts Center’s information arm works to digitize and make accessible data and records related to Sudan — building a public resource for journalists, researchers, and civil society.
Collaborative Partnerships
We work with academic institutions, media organizations, think tanks, and development agencies to strengthen journalism about and for Sudan — through co-production, training, and editorial collaboration.
How we work.
Our editorial policies govern everything we produce across all programs. These five principles are not aspirations — they are operational commitments that apply to every piece of content we publish.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are not influenced by financial, commercial, or political interests — including those of funders and partners. Our first commitment is to the public. Every story is chosen for its intrinsic value, not to serve any external agenda.
Accountability
We identify ourselves clearly to sources, handle all relationships with professionalism, and are transparent about errors when they occur. We correct mistakes promptly and publicly. We do not fabricate, and we always attribute information to its source.
Accuracy
We verify all information through more than one source before publishing. We document our processes. We do not alter visual, audio, or textual material in ways that misrepresent facts or mislead the public.
Integrity
We distinguish clearly between news, analysis, and opinion. We defend media pluralism — ethnic, religious, and political. We apply consistent ethical standards across all our work, regardless of who the story is about.
Humanity
We report with care for the dignity of subjects and sources — especially in conflict contexts. We weigh the public interest against the risk of harm. The people in our stories are not abstractions; they are the reason we do this work.

As Sudan faces one of its most challenging periods in recent history; a conflict that has uprooted millions, shattered institutions, silenced voices, and twisted realities, journalism remains essential, not a luxury. Independent journalism serves as a beacon through which communities resist efforts to suppress the truth; it gives victims a platform to be acknowledged; it preserves collective memory against erasure; and it empowers citizens to reclaim their right to information. Storytelling is a powerful act of defiance, and journalism is a vital public service that must never be reduced to a commodity for the privileged few, a propaganda tool, or a privilege reserved for peaceful times.
Today, many Sudanese journalists work in exile or in secret, stripped of income, safety, and protection. Despite losing newsrooms, colleagues, and homes, their dedication to truth remains unwavering. Supporting independent media is crucial; an investment in transparency, democracy, and Sudan’s future; a future where decisions are grounded in facts and reliable information.
Facts Center for Journalism was established on a fundamental belief: Sudan deserves journalism that is free, ethical, brave, and independent; journalism that answers only to the public, remains unaffiliated with political factions, is free from war economy funding, and stands firm against fear and censorship. Backing independent journalism, empowering Sudanese journalists, and upholding truth in times of war safeguard society’s endurance and pave the way for a just and hopeful future.
